Digital Paint Gauges

Measuring the thickness of your paint is important if you want to polish your car or remove deep scratches.

Every year car manufactures look for ways to save money on production and over the years we have seen paint thickness decreasing from an average of 120 microns to an average of 80 microns, on some Japanese cars we are seeing new cars with only 50 microns. These measurements are overall thickness from the bare metal to the top clear coat surface, the clear coat itself can be as little as 15 microns leaving precious little paint with which to polish out scratches. If you polish through the clear coat a costly respray will be needed.
